Thanks Stephen!
Here's a bit about the vert tester I'm using: http://melissasultimatefitness.com/2011/vertical-jump-testing-courtesy-of-colin-mcintyre/

Or if you can wait, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL6wTLCL6wU" rel="nofollow">this looks effing sick!</a>

Gwen, Thanks for these awesome suggestions! I really like the 5-4-3-2-1 idea for timing.

It is really funny how people have absolutely no idea how high they can reach. I saw this repeatedly doing vert jump testing at Keystone Classic and Steakfest. A lot of women thought they wouldn't even be able to reach the lowest rung on the vert tester. Some guys thought this too but it was more prevalent with the women.

Some other suggestions for externally focused jumping exercises:
--With a vert tester (or even a tree with leaves you can jump up to hit) have someone count down 5-4-3-2-1 and practice hitting your target on the 1. This can help with some of the timing of your jump--getting a feel for how long it takes you to cover ground and explode into your jump.
--Have a friend stand on a table, upside down garbage can, ladder, etc. so she can hold a disc out at a height where you can just barely catch it at the peak of your jump. You can then practice getting a running start and using an approach to grab the disc at the peak of your jump. Your friend can adjust the disc higher or lower as needed. I like this because not only does it allow you to practice the act of catching (or at least closing your hand on the disc) while jumping, it also can serve as a visual reminder for how high you can actually jump and what the disc looks like when it's at that height. When I've done this with women's teams in the past, it's amazing how often people think the disc is higher than they can jump, even though in reality it's easily reachable.

Looks Awesome Ken! Thanks for letting us know. It's a great training tool as well as testing tool. Having something like this affordable and available for every ultimate player would be totally fantastic!

For those who are interested, the original vertical jump mechanism (in which Colin got some of his inspiration) is on track to become an actual Ultimate-consumer product before the next College season. You can learn more and stay up to date by "liking" Aero Ultimate's facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/AeroUltimate

And be sure to check out the video of the original prototype!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v72NvtvhFzY

The final product's features will be:
- Be able to use outdoors, even in the wind
- Have a 7'-11' scale in which an actual disc will be suspended in the air
- Made from durable materials and be able to disassemble with ease.
